Ultrasound images are created using high frequency sounds, and the reflections of these sounds to create an image on our screen. There is no radiation. The images created are a cross section of the patients’ organs and tissues. Ultrasound allows us to examine within an organ and inspect its’ architecture.  It allows us to look for smaller masses within an organ, to examine the layering of the intestines, and to look for small, non-mineral, foreign bodies in the gut (cloth, string etc). It can be utilized with X-Ray to give a fuller picture as to what is going on in the abdomen.
